Silicon based photonic integrated circuits, or PICs, enable integration of optical devices like modulators, multiplexers and detectors onto a single silicon die. The MACOM L-PIC transmitter solves the remaining key challenge of aligning lasers to the silicon PIC. MACOM’s patented Etched Facet Technology (EFT) lasers are attached to the silicon PIC using a patented Self-Alignment EFT (SAEFTTM) process with high yield and high coupling efficiency, making the adoption of Silicon PICs a reality for high speed optical interconnects for true industrial-scale applications in the Datacenter and PON markets.  MACOM’s silicon photonics platform and companion chip sets reduce component count, shrink design-in cycles, and lower assembly time and cost.
